Very Personal thoughts tonight..

I have not opened up in very long time. Mostly been keeping what is inside of my heart to myself as of late. As I sit here, I am listening to music that is new. I am touched by all that I am listening to tonight. The strength in all of the sounds, the stories being told, is inspiring me to stay true to my path.

Production for Fire in the Rainstorm is on hold. Am I sad about that? I can't lie, I am a little. I had plans, and they were derailed by a few things. Not that I am depressed and not complaining either. Just realizing what I need to do in order for it to happen. If the album takes a few years.. then so be it. I am not giving up by any means. I can only hope that I can get things back on track so this album can get recorded. If you know any millionaires.. PLEASE do me a favor and send them my way! :^P

Other things in my life I am watching play out. Watching my oldest daughter turn 18 this month is going to be hard. Already been dealing with the tears. I myself don't feel that old. To have her turn 18 blows me away. She is a gift to our family, and I am so thankful that she entered our lives all those years ago. Now she is on the thresh hold of living her own life. I often wonder if we have taught her enough?

Then lately, so many of my friends are struggling with so much opposition. I have to wonder why so much pain and suffering is part of their lives, when I struggle with my little problems.

Then there is the positive things going on, meeting new friends, cherishing good friends, understanding the friends that need that understanding, husband that is so supportive, learning lessons that continue to help me to grow, music, concerts with musicians that are quite amazing in my book. There are the people that are silently supporting me, sending me emails, encouraging me to keep making my music. To keep taking this journey.

To have your support this way, is a gift to me. Thanks so much for your support of what I do, whether its monetary or its emails.. just knowing that your support is there, makes me keep walking forward, not falling back...

Sculpterra Winery, Paso Robles CA

Claire and I drove up to Atascadero, CA ( 15 miles south of Paso Robles) and stayed at the Carlton Hotel there. I need to say that it was an incredible hotel. The staff was on the level, and the rooms were pristine, and the beds were a dream. What amazed me the most was how QUIET it was there.

The concert was great! There were a lot of musicians that came and performed. Thanks to Steve Key and Sculpterra Winery. Mike Swan started out first, then Banjer Dan, both very diverse, but fun to listen to. Then me. Well, it was fun and I was roasting. I think I have played better for sure. I unveiled a few new songs, then Tim Pacheco was next. I really enjoyed listening to him.

The featured artist was Diane Arkenstone and friends, Pj Sawyer, Robb Lawrence, Colin Break, Carl Weingarten and Jeff Oster, and I believe Russell Green. Her music is inspirational. Talking with Diane was fun. She is very beautiful, and I admire her spirit as well. I hope to perform with her again.

The trip was an all around success to me. Just being with Claire and having her be with me during a performance was good for me. One of the last times we can be together this way. I love her and appreciate the beautiful person she is.

So, how do you ask for payment when you perform?

I have met a lot of musicians and have read about musicians trying make gigs profitable. Some of them have told me to play for free.. wait what? I used to think that way too... and now the first thing I would tell you is to ask for what you are worth. Whats the worst that can happen? Not getting hired? Well that would be a good thing because you don't want to be hired at a gig that you don't receive payment. The venue and people will treat you poorly. HOW do I know this? Its because two years ago I performed in Coto De Caza at a house concert. I was treated like crap because they did not pay me. Imagine if you will it was 95 degrees out. The host would not allow me in the house ( I must have been some kind of animal or something) to cool down, and I had to change in this really bad smelling grotto like bathroom they had by their pool. There were other musicians, that they allowed in the house because they were paying for her, AND no cold water for me. Thank goodness I brought my own water and my gear. I am always positive and I did make a few connections that night.. but for the most part, it was insulting. It was the last time I decided to play for free.. unless it was a special circumstance, and it has to be a pretty amazing circumstance.

So before you say yes to a non paying gig, or a venue that wants you to bring in people to their venue. THEY should already have an established following of their venue. Always ask about the particulars, whether you can bring in your merch and sell it.

Most of all don't sell yourself short, because you are totally worth the money. Here is a fabulous article about this very subject:

I have decided to come out of my self imposed performance exile and perform in February. If you live in California and you need a break from the hustle and bustle of life, I invite you to California's Central Coast on Sunday February 5th from 1pm - 4pm. Songwriters at Play Concert I will be playing a 4 song set, and then featured artist Diane Arkenstone will perform with special guests. Tim Pacheco will be performing as well.

What is the Music Business Like and why do you need a "fundraiser?"

Is the latest question from FanBridge. At first I got a bit on the defensive side, but as I read the question over and over, and talked with a friend of mine. She pointed out that not everyone understands how things work. She never knew until she met me. This is what inspired this blog.

I have learned a lot. 1. don't ever take things personally, you can't. If you did, you would never survive the criticisms that come, and believe me people can hit below the belt. 2. Always be gracious, but don't let anyone run you over. You can get run over doing what I do. Its best you don't let anyone do that. You can be the best ever, but you can also be clever at not losing your cool.

Hokay so, if Will Ackerman believes in me, why doesn't he help out with the album? He is helping out, by me hiring him to be my producer. He is no longer the head of Windham Hill Records. He doesn't sign people to labels, that is not what he does now. He offers his unique perspective that he has gleaned over the years and you pay for that. Oh and he doesn't just magically appear. You have to email him and ask him. He then listens to your music, THEN he chooses to work with you or not.

The music industry is in a flux of change. Its not the same like it used to be. Say for instance, if you are George Winston during the late 70's signed to the Windham Hill Records Label, the label paid for the recording costs, ie: producing, musicians, studio time, engineering; which included mixing/mastering, manufacturing. They told you how you were release the music, and tour. Touring is another whole can of worms. Let me just focus on the production. Producing an album can vary in costs. It can cost from $5k to $100k or more. "Trillium" was staggering. It cost me... yes ME $80k. THAT includes production, recording, mixing/mastering, musicians, encoding, manufacturing, a publicist, radio promotion team no tv. If you want advertising on TV, that will cost you more. To be really rounded out to market something you need the marketing web. Which includes mailing, emailing, internet, online radio, radio, TV, newspapers, magazines, reviews, interviews. Oh and I had Ed Bonk working with me to promote "Trillium". He and I were a team together. He didn't do all the mailing of the albums, I did. He did all the phone calls to all the radio stations which includes internet radio/organic radio. All of those things MUST be put in place because none of this stuff is easy to tell people about it all. If you look at a commercial nowadays, you will see these commercials repeated during a tv show or during a radio broadcast or even a podcast. We are all creatures of repetition. We have to be told several times before things sink in.

So now, I need funding. Since I am an independent musician, I don't have the financial backing of a major label like Universal, Sony, EMI or any of those companies. Have I submitted my music? Sure I have. Since I was rejected, I chose to do this on my own. Would I like to be on a label? I did that with an Independent Record Label and got burned financially by them. The conditions have to be favorable for me to consider a label. I am still submitting, so who knows?!!

In order to produce a really good album worthy of Windham Hill of the past, which is my goal, I want/need a few things in place. Will Ackerman is part of that, then his studio and engineer is another part of the puzzle, I want great mastering, so that is another cost. All of these things are money driven. Which is true for most things in the Arts. I decided to change up the album I am working on, to do a solo piano project. Simply because, making another album like "Trillium" is expensive. VERY expensive. I had funding for that. This time, that funding is not there. I am looking to people to pledge $1, $30, or more dollars if you can spare that. I am not looking for thousands of dollars from one person. Wait, didn't "Trillium" sell? Sure, but I have not recovered my costs for that. Not even close. Then why do I do what I do? Because I am not in this to make money. I am in it because this is something I love to do. LOVE it, BREATHE it... its what motivates me to get up in the morning and "Carpe Diem"!!!! I am certainly not poor, but I don't have that kind of capital and that is why I am using Kickstarter.com to help me with this.

That is why I am coming to you to ask for help, which is not easy for this prideful chick to do. If I could do this on my own I would and never ask, but here I am asking because I feel that its worthy of my time and yours.

Kickstarter Album Campaign

My purpose in writing to day is to ask for your help with the production of my new album "Fire in the Rainstorm".

I really wantto continue to create and release my music. The past year, I have been writingsome very innovative songs. Being influenced by so many things this time, friends,family, the ocean, poetry, history, current events - this album has been anextremely wonderful emotional journey. I am very excited to share with you, the music that is coming out of me.

WillAckerman, founder of Windham Hill Records and Grammy Award Winningguitarist, is my producer. This is my fourth album and the second album he andI will be working together on. He believes in my ability as a composerotherwise - he wouldn't work with me in order to create a solo piano albumworthy of a Windham Hill production.

Everything isset in place; the producer, studio, engineer, songs. I need a little help fromyou to make this happen! Every dollar will go towards the album:paying engineer(s), studio time, getting the piano in tune,mixing/mastering. Everything that makes a record a truly wonderful creation ofmusic.

I had a few friends talk to me regarding Kickstarter.com. It is an innovative way to raise money to fund creative projects. Kickstarter sets up a project webpage for potential investors to learn about projects and make pledges for the projects they want to support.

I have created a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of "Fire in the Rainstorm".

Its been quite some time since I wrote. Life has been rather busy. Thanksgiving around our home was sweet. Just hanging out with the family and friends. I am hoping all of you are doing well! Like the rest of you I am trying to get ready for Christmas, and New Years.. I thank you for supporting this blog by following what I am doing!

A Travelers perspective...

I am quite certain many of you have wondered why I was going across country. Well it all started a few years ago, when I was talking to my friend Tori. She felt like she needed to go somewhere new. I jokingly told her move to California. Little did I know that the seed I planted would bloom into a seedling.

She told me she wanted to move out here, and in the midst of opposition from family and friends, she made the giant leap cross country. I volunteered to help her drive from Erie, PA to LA. ( I had no idea what I was getting myself into! haha)

Seriously, it was a wonderful experience.. in spite of the both of us wanting to kill each other after being in the car 13 hours for 3 days.

Here are some photos for you to see what we saw. AND I know many of you wanted our route to come through your city, but we had a time limit. Which was kind of a bummer! She had to be here by today, September 28th. She is going to school here.


I flew from LA to Hartford, CT and drove Imaginary Road, Vermont - My journey started here.


I flew from Hartford to Cleveland, and Tori picked me up and we drove to Erie, PA

We drove from Erie, PA to Iowa in 11 hours the first day.

We drove from Iowa to Denver, CO. 13 hours in the car! GAAA! We went through Nebraska.


We ended up in Denver, CO on Sunday Evening. CRAZY drive.


We woke up everyday at 3:30am to be on the road by 4 - 4:30am. We drove from Denver to Southern Utah.

We woke up Tuesday morning at 3:30am, and drove to California in about 6 hours.

Thanks for coming on the journey with me and playing "Where I am now" it was fun to see who guessed where I was. Thanks for your support as well.

I wish you all a great week.. and hope that you will all be successful in whatever you pursue.

Now I really need to get something done around here!

Happy July!

I am happy that it is Summer. I am enjoying the warmth of the sun here in Southern California. There is change in the air and I am glad of the changes this Summer Zephyr is bringing. Currently, I am not performing at this time. For the past year I had been playing monthly gigs, and I seriously needed to take a break. So, for now I am allowing myself some down time. I will take suggestions for future venues tho.. so if you are interested in me performing in your area, let me know what venue you would like to see me at!

I am also in the planning stages of a new album. I don't have a name for it.. I do have some ideas in my head. I will tell you tho, that it is a very personal album. It is filling up with music that has been influenced by my internal struggles and trials. If you have any ideas on titles, I would love to hear what your thoughts are. If I choose your idea, you will get your name on the album in the credits and I will send you 4 free albums when it is finished!

Electric Heart is one of the new songs on the album. Don't let the title fool you. It will not be an electronic song.. just fyi! I will be doing something very different for this album. For now, I will keep it as a surprise.

Ides of Trililum Digital Album Released!

So excited to let you know, that "Ides of Trillium - Alternate Nashville Mixes" is available for purchase! I am really excited about this. I recorded 6 of these songs with Jeff Silverman and he really got the "electronic" side of me. After working with Jeff, I went on to Imaginary Road, and we created acoustic versions of the songs that went on the album "Trillium".

Many artists create different versions of their music. I am not the first one to do that. I wanted to show the diversity of my work when I do compose electronic songs.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed working with Jeff Silverman!

Goodbye to May, Hello Summer, Digital Download Announcement!

Greetings my friends!

The Alternate mixes of Trillium will be released on June 3rd as digital downloads. I hope you like them as much as Jeff Silverman and I do. Thanks JS!!! You rock. The mixes will be available as a physical copy at the end of the summer, and so I will have links to pre-order it. The title is "The Ides of Trillium".

On a more personal note. Winter, Spring was very hard time for me. I think it is because of the things in my personal life is less then perfect. Changes mostly. Change has always been hard on me because I don't like what changes bring. I suppose the old adage "No pain, No gain" is what I really would like to avoid.

Now this doesn't mean I will allow these changes in my life to bring me down. On the contrary, it makes me fight with all that I am. Even tho I am going through all of what life seems to toss at one, I am fairly happy. Sure, I am not immune to tears and depression.. but I would much rather laugh at what is knocking at my door, ready to "do battle with me."

I have some very special friends that have risen up to the challenge of making my life lighter, and full of laughter. I thank you for that.

I thank those of you that have offered your advice and your friendship under strained circumstances. Even tho I may not take the advice, I will always listen because I know where your heart is when you talk with me. I value that.

As I say goodbye to two seasons, I look forward to Summer with a happier heart. My music is coming out of me in droves. I cannot believe the amount of sounds that my head and heart comes up with. I look forward to recording it. Once again I will be working with Will Ackerman. The forth coming album will be very different for me. I won't spoil it, I will keep you guessing. I won't be gigging much because I feel that now that I am working on new material, it will distract me from what I want to do. However, if I am asked, I will perform. I just won't be doing a monthly gig for a while. I will be recording next year.

I look forward to the zephyr the Summer brings!

A Journey to new music...

I am in the pre-production of a new album. I won't give away too much, but I wanted to start talking about the songs, and what is impacting my writing.

I will be recording in a year the spring of 2012. Why so far away? Well.. basically the rest of 2011 is planned out and I didn't want to record in the winter. I've been gigging so much that I really need a break so that I can start rehearsing the new music that is flowing out of me. I want to take the time with each song and chart them out in terms I can remember. If you really think about it.. a year will pass quickly. Already we are in May and the summer will fly by. Time Passages... which is a title of one of the songs I am working on.

This will be my fourth album, there are many names rolling in my head for a title, the songs are going to be different than I am used to doing. Some of you that have been to my concerts recently have heard the new material.

I have also considered doing a solo piano project, and I am also thinking about doing some singles with electronic elements to them. Whatever I do, I plan on being as perfect as I can with writing... I also do not want to put too much pressure on myself as well.

Pedicure

Ok so every once in a while I do something for myself. I am sitting in a salon waiting for my copper toe polish to dry. What's most interesting is the sweet lady that gave my feet a massage sang in Vietnamese. I noticed right away the beauty of the song even tho I don't speak her language. Her voice was quiet yet very soothing. My friend Tiana suggested to come.. And so here we are. After driving all day to get here yesterday and the concert last night, I needed some quiet time. Its times like these that I reflect upon the important things in my life. As she sang this soothing tune.. I felt the calm and quiet beauty of it. Sometimes we don't always know how life is going to play out...and these days.. My life is so incredibly different from my past. Whatever happens in my life in the future.. I will be thinking of the song this beautiful soul gifted to me... So go out and go do something for yourself.. Today.

I have some thoughts about the concert last night.. with Fiona Joy Hawkins and Denise Young.

First tho, I want to say many thanks to John Mila De Roca, manager of Keyboard Concepts. He made us feel very welcome.. at least I felt that way. The day before the concert, we were able to come into the store and rehearse. Mark J. Smith came in to rehearse with Fiona and I. He was amazing. The man spent 30 minutes with us each working on our pieces and he really picked them up fast. Of course a few weeks ago we gave him our music.. but he was able to pick up on a song that I chose to use instead of another one.

Kudos to everyone at Keyboard Concepts for making the evening fabulous!

Thanks to everyone that came to the concert.. whether you lived in the area or you are from LA and San Diego! What a treat to have had you all come and enjoy our music. Thank you!

To Fiona... I am honored to have been in your first stop on your US Tour. Thanks very much for having me. I really enjoyed your performance. I thank you for your friendship as well.

To Denise... thank you SO much for putting together the Total Wine tasting after party gathering. Your friend Robin did a wonderful job with the fruit and cheese! I thank you for your friendship too. Your music with the addition of Effy, was wonderful!

For some reason, I was a bit nervous about the evening. Normally I have the jitters until I get up on the piano. Last night I was a bit on the so nervous I can't talk side. I got over it.. but still disconcerting to when I am performing. I was in my zone last night in spite of the jitters. I felt strong in my musical knowledge.. and the feelings I was experiencing.. was very difficult to put into words. The music spoke for me. I was able to express them via my music. Last night's expression of the music told a story that I used to have walls around my heart and I have decided to return to my old self. Many people in my life recently have been a catalyst for me to return to my open self. This is not to say, tho, that I am reckless in being so open. I will be cautious with my heart. I am also learning to trust myself again. So when I feel like something isn't working, I walk away. I am glad that I can express these thoughts musically. It always seems to clear my mind.

I really enjoyed listening to Denise and Fiona. It was a good night.

I met some cool people, and re-acquainted myself with some old friends. Al Conti and his manager showed up. ( Keith). Thanks gents.. was good to meet you. Hope your trip back home was a safe one.

I am thankful for all of you, my friends, my family and for those of you that have touched my life with your musical souls.

Next Concert will be The Diva Pianist Evening at Keyboard Concepts of Tustin, CA on Saturday April 16th. Fiona Joy Hawkins, Myself and Denise Young will be coming together in a rare evening of New Age's Piano Divas. Fiona is coming in from Australia, Denise is local as am I. Each of us have been produced by legendary Grammy Guitarist and Founder of Windham Hill Records: Will Ackerman. This is a rare opportunity to find all three of us performing together as Fiona does not get to the States very often. I hope that you keep your Calendar open for this concert! Tickets will be available soon, please keep on the watch for announcements on where you can purchase them.

Then I will be heading up to Northern California to Roseville and Santa Clara. On Friday April 29th, at the Sherman Clay Steinway shop 7pm. I will be performing with Bill Walker and Tiana Andreas. Then on Saturday April 30th, I will be performing at the Sherman Clay Steinway shop in Santa Clara, CA 7pm, with Bill and Tiana.

Today I received some news of friend of mine that passed on last night. I cannot stay quiet about this man. His whole nature and persona was always one of cheer and solid character. No matter what sort of health issues or problems he encountered, he was always upbeat. Imho, his courageous battle against all odds, kept me going in spite of my little problems. His inner self matched his outer persona. He knew how to live.

Cheers to GaryNJ.. you are on a new journey.

Happy New Year to all of you. I hope 2011 is a great year for you. Filled with Peace, Love and Happiness.

I will be performing in Northern California in May. For those of you that live up in the Sacramento/Bay Area keep your calendars open. Date, time and more announcements on this will be forthcoming. I hope to meet up with you and we'll have a GREAT time!

Already, January is moving along at warp speed. I am amazed at how fast 2010 just roared by us. I am quite sure 2011 will be the same.

My thoughts within...

I have been writing so much music lately... I can hardly keep up with all the thoughts my soul keeps wanting to express musically.

I have been going through some extraordinary changes the last 4 or 5 years. My thoughts, dreams, persona are being re-written. There are so many more truths within myself, that I did not wish to take a look at before and allowing myself to look at now.

I happened upon this quote by Helen Keller:

"What I am looking for is not out there, it is in me."

As the year comes to a close, I look back at where I was and look at where I am now. I find that I am quite happy with who I am becoming. I am still learning, and I hope that I do not stop learning and growing. I am still "becoming".

I look forward to sharing the new musical thoughts with you!

Happy November...and my Thanks...

I love Fall it is my favorite time of year. I suppose it means the year is winding down, and the new year is on its way. I don't like to wish away the time.. as it has been going entirely too fast.

The above picture was taken at Imaginary Road Studios this Fall. I was in Boston learning how to play the Lyricon and took some time to go to Vermont for a few days. The colors here in SoCal are not near as intense.

I am moving along on the Lyricon. It is a very different instrument than I am used to. However, I am determined, and I will work at it every day. I will keep you all posted.

I am thankful for many things, since Thanksgiving is around the corner I always like to make a list of things I am thankful that I add during the coming year. So here are just a few things I am thankful for:

My friends. Thank you for sticking with me, for listening for being there when I have not been at my best. I have not met so many kindred spirits in all of my life until lately. I find myself surrounded by wonderful people. I thank you for being in my life.

My family. I am thankful for their support!

Music... my muse wakes me up all the time now because I have so much to say musically. The opportunity to learn new things to stretch myself as a musician is a good thing for me. I am happy with all of it. Hard work, but I am not afraid of hard work.

Feeling the Zone...

Tonight I performed my monthly gig at Tushita Heaven. Each performance is different in that we have people that come and go. The attendance is always interesting to me who comes to the concerts regularly or the random person that drops in.

I was in the zone tonight. I felt the music deep inside my heart.. and it felt good to express musically what I was thinking.

Tonight was funny.. in that I thought of very random things while performing and would talk about it. What a great connection. I really enjoy interacting with everyone.. EVEN when I mess up or trip over my words.. or snort when I am playing! Yes... It got that silly.

What amazes me the most, is the ability to open up and perform to connect with everyone one on such a spiritual level.. I really enjoy that.

Thank you all for coming out, what a blessing it is to have your support!

Interesting Observations...

The last few days, I've been reading some reviews, going back to my electronic roots with some musical tunes.

Its an observation, that most of the people that bought "The Journey" really liked it. Of course as my 2nd album, that I produced, recorded myself makes it very hard for me to go back and listen to it.. as I hear all the flaws. I have had a few fans emailing me, telling me they would love for me to release an album unlike what I did with "Trillium". I had always wanted to create an instrumental album with the instruments that "Trillium" has. That is why I chose to go the route I did with my 3rd album.

I have been thinking about returning to my electronic elements for the forthcoming album. I have so many styles that I want to experiment with. I love the rhythms from the alternative genres... as well as rock... I have been contemplating about the next release.

I don't want to get "stuck" in one sound. I want to do so much more. I have so much in my head. I know I won't please everyone. I understand that everyone has a sound that touches their spirit. So I am not offended that not everyone liked "Trillium". I had a chance to work with legendary guitarist Will Ackerman, and I took it. What came out of it for me, was a leap in my writing capabilities. When creating an album, it takes and enormous amount of time. At least for me. "Trillium" took me 3 years from start to finish.

I am quite certain the new album will take some time. I don't want to rush myself. I am not even sure I will release clips.

So there is much to observe and consider. This is where I am at.

Tushita Heaven..

Tushita Heaven is a great place to be on Friday nights. Why? Because you can come and sit for 2 hours while musicians like myself perform for no cost. You can come into the store and enjoy the ambiance there while music weaves around the store. Then if you get a little hungry, you can find some light refreshments tempting you with the tastes of cheese, chocolate, fresh strawberries, green tea, and other things to help with you palate.

Last night was one of those nights where you couldn't plan the music and people. I was there performing.. but what struck me was the beauty of the store and so many people were in the store. The spirit I felt from everyone was something I won't soon forget. Everyone's inner beauty was shining so brightly, the whole feeling encouraged me to write music on the spot.

DJ Thornton was our host (KSBR Morning Breeze Radio show hostess). It was a good night. My thanks to everyone that organizes and brings these concerts to you.

Ruminations...

I am basking in the afterglow of the performance in Dana Point. I stayed in San Clemente from Thursday evening till Monday morning. Most of us were at the rehearsal on Thursday evening. Which went really well. Dov and I did more rehearsing on Friday morning. All of these guys are characters in their own right. Was fun seeing each one's personality blend in with the synergy that was going on.

Saturday's rehearsal was so incredible. It was hard to concentrate because I was listening to what everyone was doing on my music, and I really need to pay more attention!!

The whole weekend was a blur of music, eating, talking, silliness, friendship, synergy, stress, patience, blonde moments, cooking Om-letes, watching the sunset, reading, learning, re-learning, forgetting.. etc!! I could go on.

Highlight of the weekend:

During Jeff Oster's set, playing the Improv Jam in A minor, I cut myself loose on the piano.. and when I looked up everyone on stage was looking at me and smiling at me... lol. I was like " uh oh.. what did I do wrong?" LOL... and when I looked at them.. they all smiled back at me and nodded in encouragement. I still think about that and still wonder about it.. maybe I was out of tune! hahah.

Working with Scott August, Dov, John Luttrell, Jeff Oster as well as our back up Bass player Robert Murray and drummer Russ Sedat, was a trip. The synergy with all of us was excellent. It was an honor to be on stage with all of them.

Oh yes.. and I had the in-ear monitoring system with me this year. WHAT a huge difference. SOUND crew.. you rock.. thank you very much for your willingness to work with me on making the mix sound good in my ears so that I could hear myself.

Deej did a fantastic job of putting it all together. Deej.. you should be VERY proud of what you were able to accomplish!

Room for Improvement:

pffft... always room for improvement. I think the most problematic thing for me was making sure I had the synths/keys I was using in everyone's set written down!!!! I had some of them written in.. but some of them I did not.. so I was not happy with myself about that. ALSO.. if I use the Korg again for the Schmooze.. I need to have a folder on the hard drive with all the songs with the sounds programmed in. I should have taken the time to do that. Making a mental note to myself of to make sure to write down everything I do, etc etc etc.

In Ear monitoring is so different sounding than the actual mix. Making mental notes to remember that and not be so hard on myself.

Korg's bi polar pedal settings!!!! I had to keep resetting the global settings to make sure the pedal was the opposite setting of its default settings.

Overall Ruminations:

I loved every minute of the concert. It went by like a blur..because we all were having such a GREAT time. I look forward to more performances.

Getting psyched for the KSBR Morning Breeze Schmooze on September 5th. I will be performing with Scott August, Dov, John Luttrell and Jeff Oster. Bass player Rob Murray and drummer Russ Sedat will join the fray!

These guys are all great musicians. I enjoy each of them. They all have a unique musical voice and so I am so pleased to be rehearsing with them and getting to know a few of them better.

Summer

Summer is in full swing here in SoCal. Even tho the weather is being very mild, I don't mind so much. I am sure in August, September and October we will get the heat that is our Indian Summer.. or "Secret Summer" as some of the local surfers/beach combers coin the term here.

I was hoping to go to Northern California this summer to perform, but I need to slow down. My health needs to be my first priority.. and so I am taking it easy for now. No I am not sick or anything terminal. I am listening to what my body is telling me, and that is to slow down. In the fall I am sure I will be working to book some shows up in Sacramento/San Francisco area.

I am in the middle of outlining the next album(s). I have SO much new music floating around in my head. I think I am a little shocked at the amount. After releasing "Trillium" I felt that perhaps that I would be empty of anything musical. I was completely wrong. I have so much acoustic and electronic sounds floating around, sometimes its very frustrating because I want it all out TODAY! lol. BUT I know that this will take time as it did with the previous albums.

For now, I hope you will go to my website and you can download 3 songs for free. These are mixes that did not make it on Trillium.

Judging Mrs. Utah America

I had the very fun opportunity to be a judge for the Mrs. Utah America Pageant. HOW did I get to do this? I happen to know Diane Ritter that is the Director for both the Mrs. Arizona and Mrs. Utah America Pageants. Last year, I sent 50 of my TRILLIUM albums to the contestants of the Mrs. America Pageant. So she asked me if I would consider being a judge. I of course said yes.

So, I packed up my car and my daughter Claire and we drove to Utah Thurs, stayed with my parents in St. George. Drove up Friday in the early morning and got to the Marriott Hotel. I also had the excellent opportunity on Friday to meet Kurt Bestor for the very first time. He is an excellent musician, and a great guy as well. We just had fun chatting "Live".. if you will. For 4 years we had talked on the phone, and through the internet.. and we were finally able to connect.

Claire is my personal assistant! She really helped me a lot tonight when going to the pageant. I think I would have lost my mind had she not been with me. We've really enjoyed one another on this trip as well. She is so smart and funny. Everyone that has met her has said that she is cool.. and she really is.

I met some fabulous people, all very successful in what they do.

All of the contestants were beautiful, poised and intelligent. It was NOT an easy job to choose who should be Mrs. Utah America. I wished all of them could win.. but there can only be one. I really enjoyed interviewing each woman, all were easy to talk with and I enjoyed the conversations we had. ( We were on a time limit of 5 minutes! lol)

Mrs. Utah County, Ashalon Goodrich won the title. I could not believe the Evening Gowns!!!

What was REALLY surprising was my publicist Chris Franz sings like Frank Sinatra. The man can sing!

Summer 2010

It is already June. How did the months fly by so quickly and eagerly? I do not know. I am in the midst of planning more concerts in California. Will keep you posted as the dates come.

Just FYI, every 1st Friday evening of the month, I perform at Tushita Heaven from 7pm - 9pm. If you live in the Southern California area, I invite you to come and enjoy some music, light refreshments and conversation. I went to Boston, Vermont and New Jersey with a drive into NYC. I really enjoyed my trip. I went to Worcester for a radio interview, and that was fun. Karen Mungal interviewed me for the second time and I really enjoyed that! I visited friends in Vermont, visited friends in Jersey.. and she drove me into NYC. I must say I fell in love with the Big Apple. Next time I visit NYC, I'd like to go into the Stock Exchange for a visit. I for sure would like to drive into Pennsylvania.

Summer is a fun time for me, kids are out of school... and then we swim, go to the beach, and of course I need to get my rehearsal and composing time in there somewhere!

Segment from Today's Showcase Minnesota!

This morning started out in a flurry of action. I got up at 6am central time, 7am makeup/hair artist came and did HD make up for the TV appearance. Drove with my friend Kathleen to KARE 11 and did 3 teasers throughout the show. It was REALLY cool. Then hung out in the green room with my friend Kathleen and Lacey the make up artist. Kathleen is a long time friend of mine. Having her there with me was SO awesome. Rob Hudson came in the room ( Showcase Minnesota Host, there are two of them Corbin Seitz and Rob Hudson). Everyone made me feel at home. LIVE TV is very different from being on radio. Normally I wear my Pajamas or sweats when I am on Radio! This was a bit more dressed up for me. Lacey O'Sullivan did a fab job on hair and make up! My thanks... ( needs to get this make up off sometime soon..)

I felt VERY comfortable, played without my shoes on, and man it was cool!

I sent Serge my album... twice. A few days ago I picked up my mail and I received this funny folder sized packet from the US Postal Service in LA... from the LA Network Distribution Center Claims and Injury... now you gotta know what I was thinking? WTF? What is going on? WHAT is this? I open it.. and there is a battered black folder ( which I send all of my press kits in) and it had NO CD in it. Someone decided they needed it more than Serge. Whats really "Hilarious" is the letter that came with it...

Dear Postal Customer:

The enclosed has been damaged in handling in the U.S. Postal Service ( you mean we are sorry someone STOLE your CD and we can't recover it for you.. you are SOL!! )

Zone Music Reporter Top 100 Recordings 2009

It is 3:04 am. Solitude for me. Time my muse wakes me up so that I can work. I am listening to the new music I am working on. Thinking I need to re-record what I have done. Perfectionist that I am. I wish I could type all the thoughts and things going through my head right now. I think mostly I am a bit stunned that TRILLIUM made the top 100 Recordings for 2009, at number one, according to ZMR. (Zone Music Reporter). Many wonderful musicians are with me on this chart. Thanks for all the well wishes, the good karma I feel from all of you is a blessing.

My thanks to Will Ackerman, Corin Nelsen, Jeff Silverman and all the gifted musicians that contributed their unique talents to mine. This path to share my music the way I have always dreamt of, and to see it in motion is very surreal. Words cannot describe how I am feeling atm.

Many other things I am dreaming of is to work in film. I would love to score a film. I know that one day that will happen. If you can dream it, you can achieve it! I am living proof that dreams come true. In the last 2 years, I've climbed out of my box and have done things that would have scared me to death.. but I chose to look at my fears and stare them down. I chose not to put limitations on myself... and that is when things began to move forward.

If you have a dream.. follow it. If you find an obstacle.. remove it, go around it. Don't let all the what ifs, and I can't, stop you.

Open up your heart and face your fears head on and doors will open... I promise.

Sometimes in the community its always nice to offer a free concert. That is what I am doing on Friday January 22, 2010 from 7pm - 9pm at Tushita Heaven. I will be playing that evening at a wonderful place of healing. I invite you to come and enjoy the beautiful spirit of this place. It is in San Juan Capistrano near the Train Station. Returning...

Today started with a flurry of activity.. piano lessons. A few months ago I decided to continue my musical education with piano lessons. What can I possibly learn? I want to learn the scales. Sure I know the scales from when I was younger.. but want to know the Scales, Chords and inversions. This will help me become more rooted and comfortable when someone asks me to play in A minor natural scale, I will KNOW what they are talking about. I am also wanting to make my left hand do more "talking".. instead of just plain old broken chord accompaniment. We worked for an hour.. and I am finally feeling like I can move forward in my technical knowledge. Oh and yeah.. I am going to start playing other people's music. I MIRACLE for me.. because for so long I chose to write my own music, play my own music. I never felt motivated to learn other styles.. until the last 6 months or so.

I don't want to know theory, or how to write it all out.. I want to encourage my innate natural talent to not limit my abilities to a certain key signature. I want to have the ability to compose music anywhere on the keyboard and have this ability to add it to my already "built in sense" of what works and does not. I used to be nervous about extending myself. .but I feel I can do this.

My point of all this is, always stretch and learn about things that you have always wanted to get better at, or something you have always wanted to learn!

My Weekend

Sometimes I often wonder if time is in a vacuum. I spent a lot of energy getting ready for this past weekend. It came barreling towards us, we performed and then it was gone and now its another Manic Monday....

First of all, Saturday blew in with the arrival of Scarlet Rivera and Jeff Oster. We all met up with Dj Thornton, KSBR Morning Breeze Host, down at the Ocean Institute and boarded the "Spirit of Dana Point" Tall ship. Jeff brought his flugel horn and I brought my flutes.

This was the make up Schmooze Cruise that was supposed to happen over Labor Day Weekend..but the harbor was congested!

Then Sunday Morning came, I had all my gear loaded into the car.. mixer, keyboard stand, mic stand.. everything! I drove to the airport to pick up Lars Hidde. It was so cool to rehearse with him and work with him. He is such a pro.

Then 3pm came really fast. We packed up our stuffas.. and drove to Soul at Home In between of all the craziness of setting up, sound checks.. etc , etc etc... I was interviewed by DJ Thornton for a documentary she is making of me. Sonya Bangston manned the camera.

People started streaming in about 5pm.. and more came as time went on. I am sure we had about 30 people there. Was a nice crowd for the small room we were in.

The concert started with my set. My hearing was so bad ( Claritin wore off) that I chose to go completely acoustic since the room was already "LIVE" enough. Adding more sound was causing me to be confused because of my hearing. Sometimes my deaf ear frustrates me! Then Jeff Oster and Lars did their set. They asked me to play on several of the tracks... talk about stretching a person's abilities. It was a good thing for me.

During the day on Sunday, Ed Bonk of Lazz Promotions called me to tell me that TRILLIUM is yet again number one on the ZoneMusicReporter charts. This is 3 months in a row! July I zoomed in there at the number 2 spot, and then we've been holding our own since then.

I say "our" with a measure of pride. Thanks to Will, Corin and everyone that worked on the album. Its quite a blessing to know that so many appreciate the music and they are supporting my efforts! Special thanks to Ed Bonk ( Lazz Promotions) and Chris Franz ( Razing Kane Entertainment)

This weekend is going to be a bit crazy for me! Not complaining tho because it will be a musical weekend for me. I always enjoy that when I can perform and especially performing with my friends. Each one is a blessing. They add to my music.. I wish I could go on tour with them all. I think we would have a GRAND time. I am sure that might happen sometime.. BUT for now, we can enjoy a concert this Sunday evening.

I also had a interesting conversation this morning with Stephen Arnold music. These guys recorded two songs of mine when I was 15. They are now a full service licensing and production company. I called them today and told them that when I recorded so long ago, it fueled my desire to become a musician... and here I am a few years later doing what I love to do! I gave "Chad" the link to Zone Music Reporter's website to show him where I have come since then. He was pleased that I called them. He forwarded my info on to Stephen Arnold. It would be fun to chat with him as well.

I found my 1/4" reel tape that the music is on, and so I am in the process of getting it transferred to digital format so I can share what I sounded like at 15. Mind you, I was a kid and I recorded a "Pop" style song entitled THE LONELY ROAD that I wrote with a friend of mine Tammy Leishman, from my Minnesota days. I wrote the song, she wrote the lyrics. I also recorded an instrumental piece as well.

I remember when I recorded there, it took me weeks to come down from my cloud. In fact I think the feelings I had afterwards stayed within me even now, I remember the feelings, the nervousness, even the smell of the studio. It had this vanilla jergens scent all throughout the studio.

Online Concerts...

This is an interesting idea I had. I perform in Second Life from time to time, and so decided to share the stream link with those that do not want to join SL. You can open up the stream in your iTunes browser. What would be fun is to get a bunch of my band mates to perform with me here at my home studio..or even at a studio that we could stream into iTunes... that is definitely something to work on.

It was very successful. Peak listening was at 55.. and that did not include those of you on iTunes listening in. So.. I am sure we were around 100. The stream can handle over 200 listeners. The way technology changes I am sure we will be able to handle more listeners. We are still working on the sound, which I am sure with time we will be able to tweak and get it better.

I will keep you posted on when and where you can tune in.

My current Travels..

I am currently on the road. I left on Thursday October 8th on the red eye to Boston, MA. I arrived early in the morning. The sun was coming up on the horizon.. and it was quite beautiful.. Even being in the back of the plane... literally, it was not a bad trip. I went to Hertz, and rented me a 4 wheel drive vehicle.. cuz I had a long drive up to Vermont ahead of me.

As I drove on the 90 Mass Turnpike... I was struck by the beauty of the season. Fall is upon us. The people here in this part of the country certainly know it is, the coolness of the weather, the change of the colors most definitely tells you that the new season is upon us. In Cali... we have our cool days.. but we do not get the brisk temperatures.

Some of you are probably wondering why I am here again and why I went to Vermont. I had an opportunity to do an Echoes show with John Diliberto.. and thought it would be cool to share with Will Ackerman my producer as some of the musicians that were on the album TRILLIUM. Essentially I thought perhaps this would go down like this: Me do two songs... Will do two songs and Jeff Oster do two songs.. perhaps Eugene Friesen in the mix as well. What actually happened was amazing. The evolution of what we did was this: We taped a living room concert with my music in the mix, one of Jeff's songs "Fools Gold"... and I then we also taped a Christmas show. John interviewed me, and Will. He also talked with Jeff regarding Fools Gold. We were able to procure David Cullen, Jill Haley, Derrik Jordan, Scarlet Rivera, Jeff Oster, of course Will and I. Will invited the Echoes team up to Imaginary Road Studios and we did the taping there. Corin Nelsen and Jeff Towne did a fabulous job recording everything. Kimberly Haas is the Executive Producer.. with John Diliberto as your host.

Sunday October 11, we taped the Living Room concert... which was much fun. Will Ackerman, Me, Jeff Oster and Derrik Jordan did live renditions of songs on my album. I wish we could have done BLUE ICE and CARPE DIEM... but sometimes you can't have it all. I was amazed at the synergy.. I even got to jam with Will, Jeff and Derrik that day. What a fun memory for me to have.. I even have video. I won't be posting that... but the pics are worth a thousand words...

Monday, the rest of the musicians showed up.. and we started working and taping the Christmas show. Each song had its place in the show.. and of course we got silly and had a GREAT time!

Again, the synergy between everyone.. was amazing. John Diliberto made us all feel pretty comfortable. It was nice. All the interviews, shows etc will be broadcast(ed) in November and December on Echoes. So I hope ya'll will check the Echoes website and tune in where ever and however you can!

I would say that being in Vermont is heaven on earth. I enjoy it every time I go.

The weekend coming up.. I will be heading down to Tennessee. I will be visiting a GREAT friend of mine. She and I were college buds way back when. We have kept our friendship and have kept in touch even tho we are miles apart. She came to see my first gig at BB Kings in LA. Talk about supportive!

Kori Linae Carothers - TRILLIUM: There are many stunning moments on this fantastic multi-instrumental CD. She has a gentle, yet piercing, piano style... in other words, her music doesn't invade you with overbearing penetration... rather it's like she's breathing through her fingers for you. Her synthesizer work on the marvelous "Blue Ice" (my favorite on the album) will have you spinning the track over and over (as I did)... it's not one of those "mysterious, swami-like" things; rather, her light just shines through, & you understand in only seconds how much power illumination has! Her composition skill on "Carpe Diem" makes the CD well worth the purchase... her spirit washes over yours & lets you ascend to the very heights of the dream. The image I get is of a player who knows what she wants her music to say, and has the ultimate skill to convey it in a way that will let the listener know that they are hearing true originality. Very exciting music that will carry you through the land this extremely sensitive player lives in, & make you want to stay there for a long time... my "EQ" rating for this album is 4.94, very near the top of the 1-5 scale (& that says a lot)... pure energy! Variety is the Spice of Life

I can recall reviewing Kori Linae Carothers previous album The Road Less Traveled and feeling like this artist is really going somewhere. Her newest work Trillium proves she has just about arrived. Utilizing her well-developed compositional skills and employing the talents of producer Will Ackerman and the Imaginary Roads Studio Band, Kori along with her piano offers an exceptional album of contemporary music. Her album is not particularly themed around nature as the title suggests, but is a collection of impressions and synopses of life experiences set to music.

Without Kori's music, I could not imagine a translucent expanse made out of sparkling crystals. Crystal Fields is a beautiful beginning to the album. Scintillating points of light are clearly projected throughout the tune, which features the talents of Eugene Friesen on cello and Jeff Oster on flugel horn accompanying Kori's memorable score. Beautiful and mesmerizing as crystals can be, we must remember that they can also distort things on occasion, so close examination is a must. After hearing this first tune, I was confident that I would like the rest of what was to come, and I was not disappointed.

I really enjoyed the synthesized tune Blue Ice. There is magic in the blue ice and I for one do not want to know the scientific reasons as to why the ice is blue. I just want to believe that in every snowflake that falls and is compressed into a massive layer of ice, a little bit of blue sky is hidden inside waiting for me to watch it melt in some other lifetime. Kori infuses enchantment into the song with the help of Tom ShinnessL on bass, Jeff Silverman on drums and programming and Corin Nielsen on chimes.

Nantucket starts out almost like a solemn hymn, but then things change. Life gets brighter, sunnier and the whole scene is propelled by Atlantic breezes with a tang of salt in the air. It’s becomes a song of optimism and joy. To me it sounded like something out of the Dave Grusin/Golden Pond songbook. That's a good thing. T Bone Wolk adds his talents on bass and accordion on this one.

There is something blatantly sad about the tune Midnight. Oster's flugel sings a bittersweet opening layered with sound. Kori's pianissimo reply is somber, yet melodic. It is a song to that magic hour when geniuses create, artists paint and musicians compose. It is the song of the night owl, the free spirit and mad scientists.

Carpe Diem with vocals by Aeone (the resplendent voice on the Mists of Avalon soundtrack) is my album favorite. It has Celtic elements with a haunting melody and nerve tingling drive. Robert B. parker once wrote that you should wake up every morning like your hair is on fire and I for one support his philosophy. It is sometimes annoying to others, but that’s just part of it, isn’t it?

Kori gets as close to smooth jazz as she might dare with the tune 3 Degrees. It is not a song of temperature, but perhaps one of direction. It is a little off center, but that is what makes it interesting. It is tune of tangents and ideas that come full circle.

Trillium is kind of like aromatherapy for the ears. You put it on and it seeps into the pores of your spirit, refreshing you, making you just a little more content. The key word for this album is diversity. Kori tackles everything from contemporary to Celtic to Native American and does it with panache. Carothers has a winner with this album and I highly recommend it.

Where do I begin? At the beginning? Summer was the beginning of all this craziness. I am HAPPY.. but oh... man its been nuts. Not complaining... happy to see the music doing so well.

My sister Annette has reported to me that she has been hearing my music on Comcast's Music Choice program. We both have been very emotional about it all. I can't tell you what this project has meant to me. I have ALWAYS wanted to record my music and to have the opportunity to work with Will and Corin at Imaginary Road.. has simply been THE best experience in my life.

I want to thank those of you that are on the album. Jeff Silverman.. you rock! Will and Corin.. thank you . I am sure throughout my life I will continue to thank you.. because we all will be working together again. Katja, Tania and Deb... thank you... After what seems like years of being away... I am home. I went to Vermont to work at Imaginary Road Studios... to mix in Surround Sound. I am quite happy how the music turned out. I think we have a few more tweaks here and there.. but other than that, I will have surround mixes of Trillium. I took my 10 year old daughter with me... and we had a great time just hanging out with one another. Seeing Imaginary Road and staying there in the summer time was FUN! Jane had fun "planting" sticks around the area. I met Rocky Fretz and his lovely wife.. and of course hung out with Will and Susan. Corin as always, did a rockn job mixing/mastering the surround mixes. We took many pictures of the Vermont area.. mostly of the Stickney Brook and the West River. They have had SO much rain and the bugs were out in force. I have NEVER seen ants as big as there were in VT! lol I even got bit by some no-see-ums. In fact.. I was the main course.

After Vermont, Jane and I drove back to Boston on Saturday the 1st of August. We drove down the 2 East. Which was a beautiful drive. I must confess New England is one of my favorite places to visit. We hung out at our Hotel because of being ultra tired. Sunday morning came roaring in.. we did our laundry, etc. The mundane things of life. I met Bill Bernardi the maker of the Lyricon. Google that.. and I guarantee an interesting read.

Then... I had an interview on WICN Tonal Vision show with Karen Mungal. We drove to Worcester pronounced by the locals Woosta... Its not Wor chester. its Woosta.. rhymes with Rooster. Many of the locals had a good laugh at how I thought it was supposed to be pronounced. The concert was amazing. As with any concert..if I don't remember to take pictures it ain't gonna happen .. and it didn't! *sigh*... I was too focused on playing the music.. and staying in a mode where I could perform. I met some wonderful people and the studio that I performed in was fabulous. Karen is a lovely woman.. and I enjoyed talking with her.

We drove back to our hotel.. and I think Jane and I ended up going to bed at 11pm Eastern. I was exhausted and slept soundly. We woke up Monday morning and got ready to fly from Boston to Minneapolis. OF course there was NOT a direct flight on American.. so we had to fly to Chicago.. make a MAD dash to connect to our flight to Minneapolis. Imagine... us running in the Chicago Airport going from the K concourse to the L concourse.. "Home Alone" comes to mind... we barely made it.

What is the chance in life that you have friends in two different states that have the same last name? Well... Will Ackerman... of course in Vermont. My best friend and her family live in Minneapolis.. and their last name is Ackerman!!!! NO relation there.. but it makes an interesting story. We arrived in Minneapolis in the evening.. the sun was still up.. and it was SUPER to see Kathy and her family. We have not seen each other in a while... so it was a good visit. They took us to the Mall of America on Tuesday. THAT place was wild. I met Bill Binkelman there.. and that was cool. VERY nice guy. I enjoyed talking with him.

Wednesday came all too soon. We flew from Minneapolis to Chicago.. then Chicago to LAX. It was hard to be done.. but I told Jane to be happy instead of being sad. Happy for the experience she had.

Its been a very interesting summer. Fraught with challenges. Who doesn't have them right? Mine seem to hang by a thread at times.. and I am often perplexed at what to choose.. and where to go.

Many of my choices tho lately.. have been good for me on many levels. I have chosen to never let the negative bring me down. Sure.. I can wallow in it and make myself unhappy in that choice.. but I choose to enjoy what life hands me. Not saying I don't have my down days.. but I tend to decide to stay positive to matter what.

I am preparing to return to Vermont. This time we will be mixing in Surround Sound. I am looking forward to seeing what summertime looks like there at Imaginary Road. I've been there in the late Fall, Winter and Spring. I have loved all the different changes that were brought to this beautiful part of the world.

After I work there.. will drive down to Boston and stay there a few days. Then, I fly out to Minneapolis. I am looking forward to seeing my old "stomping grounds". Minnesota, the place I loved as a child. I remember freezing my butt off and I also have some fun memories of an old farmhouse we moved to in the southwestern part of Minnesota. I remember the trips to Madeline Island, WI. A magical place that seems to haunt me to this day.

One of many Ferry Boats.. cars drive onto the boat and then it takes you to La Pointe, WI on Madeline Island. SUCH a fun place to vaction.

The one place that totally makes me remember this place.. that is also magical.. is Big Sur. The water.. the cabins.. I don't know.. they both hold a magical feeling for me.

I will post pics from my trip out east.. and will blog about it all. Have a fun summer!

Whats with the silence?

Well the summer is in full swing. I have lots going on that I cannot talk about yet. I will tell you that I am going to Vermont again end of this month to mix Trillium in Surround Sound. I will also be in Boston, and then I will end up in Minneapolis in August then home.

August is going to be insane. I have a few concerts scheduled.. and then September and October are barreling towards us.

Once I know more about the fun stuff.. I'll be posting it. I am going to return to my scheduled summer now...

I am about to climb the wall... I am sitting here working on legal stuff.. paper work and waiiiiiiiting for UPS to come. Waiting for 5 boxes filled with Trillium, to come. I think I need some music... and now I have Michael Hedges album "Aerial Boundaries" playing. This guy's music is so amazing. He plays a guitar like no one else. He passed on in 1997. I do miss hearing from him. If you want to watch a beautiful movie that is a tribute to him and his style of guitar, watch "August Rush".... its an amazing story.

So.. now that I have the music playing.. I suppose I am calming down!!! Where is the UPS GUY? LOL...

As soon as I know something.. I will Twitter as soon as I get the album(s)!

Have some exciting things to tell you.

1. We have been hard at work adding a "Links" page which is now live.

2. A new "shop" page and "music" page has gone live tonight! The shop page is powered by Nimbit. You can shop on the website without leaving the page. Which really makes purchasing downloads easier, and hassle free. I buy many of music CDs through Nimbit and I have liked the option to do that. T-shirts and wristbands are available too.

The Music page has links to Amazon, CD Baby and iTunes and so you can still purchase my music via these sites as well.

What does it mean to me? Music is my first love. It doesn’t hurt me, it doesn’t talk back to me. It does not tell me lies, it does not judge me, and forgets who I am. It just is. It helps me when I am lost. Music helps me get lost when I need to soar on my own. Music belongs to my soul, belongs to my heart. It does not give me conditions. It is always there, no matter what mood I am in. Music makes me live, breathe and be. I could not live without it. The sounds the moods, the love music gives helps me feel like I belong in this world.

Music has gives me the will to go on when things are not at their best. Music helps me celebrate my life with others, and other musicians celebrate with me. I am nothing without my music....

I am back from Vermont. I left last Sunday and came home last night. I had all day on Monday April 20th to recover from the red eye I flew on. Note to self: Make sure to book a flight on a bigger plane if doing red eye. A 767 or 757 plane is MUCH better for those LONG cross country flights to Boston. Yes.. I flew there.

Anyway... I got to Boston, had a little fun at the Hertz Rental Center. The lady that helped me get my car.. etc, wanted me to play a joke on her Boss. Flo is her name, she was a happy person.. and I must say her Boss was pretty good natured, and had the most outrageous scholarly Boston accent. They treated me quite well. They made sure I had a fast pass for the Massachuesettes Turn PIke. That road is insane. I ended up driving on the 2 West to the 91. The 91 takes you into Vermont.

I stayed at the Four Columns Inn. IF you EVER stay in Southern Vermont, I recommend them highly. The Four Columns Inn They treated me like gold. I had a fabulous time staying there. ONE problem I had tho.. NO cell coverage. Verizon... you need to fix that!

Tues April 21, Wed., April 22 and Thursday Aprill 23rd, I went and worked at Imaginary Road Studios to hopefully finish up the album. On the 21st and the 22nd.. I stayed at Will's place called the Dream Garage. I would have stayed there all week, but another artist came in on Thursday.. they stayed till Saturday. So.. I went back to the Four Columns Inn.

Tuesday I decided to put down some vocal colors on The Long View and Will suggested to put some down on Nez Perce too. Which I did! It all turned out great! Wednesday we worked till 7pm, got the isrc codes from RIAA and also the UPC code for Trillium as well. I did a lot of paper work. I still have LOTS to do. I finally understand the publishing info from BMI... and I need to fill all that out! Doing all of this myself has been a pain in the butt.. however, I am glad I know what I need to do now.

Thursday, Will spent some time going over the songs.. and trying to put the songs in sequence on the album.. was a puzzle. I am just glad we were able to figure it out. You wouldn't think there was a science to sequenced songs on albums.. well, it IS in the New Age genre. The flow of the album depends on it. Especially mine. Its is a VERY dynamic album. Gutsy.. and it does push the envelope on many levels in the New Age Genre.. WHY it is called that?.. ARGH. I am hoping we can change the face/name to ElectrA Coustic Instrumental or ElectrACoustic.. EA pronounced with a long E. We'll see how that goes.

Friday was a day off.. I mostly explored the area.. LOTS of pictures to upload for you to look at. I did go up to Will's.. but decided I better explore around in Newfane. Saturday I spent most of the day with a friend of mine from Connecticut. Went exploring. It was SO hot over the weekend there! lol... All the trees were pushing out their leaves. It was fun!

I will tell you, that the room at the Inn was great. The food was fabulous and the owners are amazing people. Debbie and Bruce Pfander. The restaurant is out of this world. I hope you all get a chance to stay there.

Sunday Morning the 26th.. I woke up to lots of birds chirping. The church bells rang around 9am. That was fun! I am telling you.. that Newfane is the most quiet town I have ever stayed at! lol.. I suppose I am around noise 24/7 that it was just so noticeable to me.

I went over to Will and Susan's and hung out for the morning until I had to drive myself down to Boston. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them. Susan showed me the gardens.. and all the plants that were coming up. I love to garden.. and it was fun to see all the various spring flowers in bloom. The hyacinths, small pansies, wild violets, all the different daffodils.

I then drove to Boston, got there in time to sit for about 15 minutes until we boarded. Got on a HUGE 767.. and did some work on the laptop, ate, slept, read.. and finally got to LAX. I had someone come pick me up and drive me home. We got home in great time!

Will keep you posted on the release date of the CD.. etc.

OC Register Write Up...

So much is going on, that it is getting very difficult to keep up with everything. SO, I hired a publicist. His name is Chris Franz from Razing Kane Entertainment. When?

The big question today from many of you is: WHEN? When is my album "Trillium" going to be done.

Well, I have no idea! LOL... I have jinxed the release date about 3 or 4 times in the past year and so I am VERY reluctant to give you an exact date.

The album was supposed to have been done by November or 2008.. but as you all know, that didn't happen. Well if you are wondering.. I will tell you.

Earlier in 2008, I decided to follow a HUGE dream by working with Will Ackerman at Imaginary Road Studios. They were booked up pretty heavy and so November is when I went to work there. I was VERY lucky to go back in January to finish up several songs, so that is one of the things that set us back. There were other things I didn't think would crop up, but did and so we had to set the release schedule back further. I may need to go back in April.. we shall see.

Right now I am searching for artwork to put in the CD booklet. My "Director of Graphics" is Debra Silverman. So she will be helping to put it all together once I get all the artwork in place and done. I will also have photos put on the front cover and back, as well as a tiny Trillium flower placed somewhere interesting. I have a few people helping me by suggesting people they know, or some even do fabulous work themselves.

I am looking for artwork similar to this style:

I would love to use that picture.. but I don't know the artist who did this. Trying to find the one that did that, is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. So... now you know.

I will guestimate early in the summer. Keep your fingers crossed and come by and visit here, facebook or my website to comment! I always enjoy the emails you send me.

Musical Stories

I am listening to the Best of 2008 by Mystic Soundscapes. While listening, I felt inspired to write about a song I wrote when I was 14. It is called Nez Perce.

When I was in Junior High just yesterday, I saw a movie called "I Will Fight No More Forever". It is about the Nez Perce Nation in the Wallowa Valley. The US Government in their need for land grabbing, forced the Nation out of their home. Chief Joseph's goal was to go to Canada and continue their long and rich tradition of living their lives. Unfortunately the tribe did not make it to Canada.. except for a few. Their story touched my young heart and I felt I needed to express my feelings about their saga. I wrote the piano part long ago, then 2 years ago, I acquired a Native American flute in Blanding, UT. After a year of learning the flute, I bought another Native Flute from Stephen DeRuby.

To build the song, I put down keyboard tracks, and then I went into Sonikwire Studios to record the flute parts. That was last summer in July. I then sent the song to Jeff Silverman for him to mix and do the sound design for it. It is going through more mixing at Imaginary Road Studios in Vermont.

This song has taken a long journey to get to this point of expression. I hope you enjoy listening to the rough mix of it.. and continue to watch for the final mixes.

Home From Vermont

I am unbelievably tired. Not complaining... its just that I have learned so much more about recording from Will Ackerman and Corin Nelsen and it was so much information for myself to take in. The work was incredibly draining.. yet extremely fulfilling.
I flew to Boston, MA on January 6th. I had to drive like a maniac to Brattleboro, VT in order to be at the DG “Dream Garage” before a huge snow storm hit.

To be quite honest... I am a big wimp. Driving in snow makes me nervous...I’ve not been in snow since 1980. Yes I know, I grew up in Minnesota, but my family uprooted us and brought us to Texas. My Minnesota blood thinned out and my memory of driving in snow/slush has been reduced exactly what it is.. a memory. My driving skills are not all that great. Good news though, with a 4 wheel drive SUV vehicle on my side, and GPS made it only slightly tolerable. We were snowed in for a few days and I was mildly freaked out by all the snow the storm dumped on us!

I stayed at the DG for the whole time I was there. It was a VERY creative place to be. I could not sleep much of the time I was there, because my brain was in overdrive at all the work we needed to accomplish.

I finally ventured out on my own.. I really pushed myself to drive out in that winter wonderland. I actually did fine.. and I should have gone out on my own much sooner.

I could write more.. but it would be an immense job, so like I did last time, I will write and post a blog everyday in order to tell you about my time working with Will.

Let me leave you with observations... Will is fabulous. The man knows his craft. He opened up his heart to my music.. and so did all of the musicians that came to lend their talents to the songs. The music is going through some changes, we are blending the Electronic and the Acoustic so that they are balanced. InSync was scratched from the album.. and replaced with a new song “The Long View”.

This opportunity to become a better musician, has been SUCH an eye opener. I will never be the same, nor will my music.

Reflections

Normally I would post this on New Years day..but I am feeling the need to write today. I have looked back the past year what I have accomplished and am feeling pretty good about it.

Thank you to Heath Vercher for giving me the great idea to write my goals down. Which I did, and have accomplished most of them for 2008. Today I will spend some time writing goals for 2009. One of my goals for 2009 is to release Trillium. I have a date in mind, however.. every time I have given dates to release this album, its jinxed it! hahaha. So, I will keep that date quiet until things look more together and more likely going to happen.

This year has been a rough one for me. I've gone through some very personal struggles, which I still am dealing with. I do have a positive outlook tho, I will never let these problems overwhelm me and beat me. Sure I have my bad days... but I refuse to be a victim. I refuse to let myself be overwhelmed. I will stand against the wind no matter how hard it blows.

Major changes going on in my life, all good. Nothing sad, just things I have needed to take care of for quite some time. I have the support of my family and friends and that is important to me. While I could go into all of this, its too personal for me to talk about openly. Just know, that I am happy with everything that is changing around me, and in me; its all good.

In my short life, I have learned many things. One of the many items of my personal growth is that we all are human. We all do things in our lives that may go against the status quo, or can hurt. I'm telling you, don't ever judge each other by some of the mistakes we make. Because, sooner or later the things we judge each other by will come into our own lives. Is better to love one another for who we are and not what we want each other to be. Each of us are different, viable, wonderful persons. How we live, what we do, happens to be personal choices. We all make mistakes, that is how we learn and grow.

I've made some fabulous friends in the past year. I feel very fortunate for having all of you in my life and making a difference in my life. I thank you for your love, friendship and support.

This coming 2009 I feel as if I am on the brink of new challenges. Although, I don't welcome the painful growth that come with those trials, I welcome the better person that I will become.

Wishing you all a Happy 2009 filled with your desires.
